St. Pascal's Social Justice & Caring Committee

Our parish community is deeply committed to living our Gospel call to hospitality, inclusivity, and justice through social action.

Activities focus on advocacy and charitable outreach. Presently, the parish advocates for fair and affordable housing, elimination of food insecurity, and racial justice within the community.

Examples of service projects include a monthly food distribution in partnership with Merrick Community Services; support for Fishes and Loaves food shelf at neighboring Progressive Baptist Church; a donation closet with resources and supplies contributed by parishioners for area programs such as Listening House and Brittany’s Place; and semi-annual visits by the Red Cross Bloodmobile. Catholic Charities’ Giving Tree and Prison Fellowship Angel Tree ministries are part of our annual Christmas traditions.

Our Social Justice & Caring Committee informs parishioners about pertinent social justice advocacy opportunities and activities throughout the community. Three times a year, the SJCC organizes the We Care Campaign to allow parishioners to learn more about and contribute to carefully selected charitable organizations.

December Donation Closet

In December, we are collecting items for both the Catholic Charities Giving Tree and the Angel Tree.

Catholic Charities Giving Tree ensures that children and adults have access to essential items such as clothing, housewares, and self-care items. Folded flyers that list the items needed are on the tree in the Gathering Space.

Take a flyer, purchase your gift(s), then place the NEW and UNWRAPPED gifts in the bin in the Gathering Space before December 25.

Angel Tree, a program of Prison Fellowship, provides Christmas gifts to children on behalf of an incarcerated parent. St. Pascal’s will provide gifts to 23 children this year. Angel Tree tags listing suggested gift items are on the tree in the Gathering Space.

If you took an Angel Tree tag, please purchase the noted gift, wrap it, and then place it in the Angel Tree box in the Gathering Space or the Donation Closet. Angel Tree gifts are to be NEW and WRAPPED and returned to the parish by Sunday, December 14 with the tag attached to ensure the gifts get to the children by Christmas. Thank you for your generosity this season and all year round.

Thank you to all who donated to Joseph’s Coat and the Emergency Food Drive in November.
