Have You Filled a Bucket Today?

On the feast of the Holy Family the Sunday after Christmas, I read and preached about a wonderful children’s book by Carol McCloud “Have You Filled a Bucket Today?”. The premise of the book is that everybody carries around an invisible bucket and “Its purpose is to hold your good thoughts and good feelings about yourself”. It is our job to fill each other’s buckets. We “fill a bucket when you show love to someone, when you say or do something kind, or even when you give someone a smile.” I love this book for the simple and wonderful way it reminds us of Jesus’ greatest commandment to love one another by being bucket fillers.

If you did not hear my homily you can watch it on our YouTube channel:

Today, I was sent a beautiful picture from St Pascal’s parishioner Julie Baker’s classroom where she has put up a reminder to the children in her class to be bucket fillers. It really touched my heart and brought joy to me. This is also a great reminder to us of how to live our lives as disciples of Jesus, thanks Julie!

The book is available on Amazon at:

It would make a wonderful gift for a child or grandchild in your life.

Peace, Love, and Blessings
